Fascinating. It makes sense that with such an intense selection (most males killed) that evolution would happen much faster than with milder selections. Thank you for an interesting article.

I have joint pain in my fingers, toes, and ankles which is helped greatly by taking 2,000 units of vitamin D. I foolishly stopped when the sun came out for summer, and the pain came back until I resumed supplementing.
Do you think selecting an overweight person as surgeon general sets a bad example for the nation?

Thank you for sharing your story. My husband also has long term lyme and it took over a year for it to be diagnosed from the time he started experiencing severe joint pain. We believe that he'd had it for five years already by then. He never had the rash either.

Another side effect not mentioned is that for those of us prone to depression, it can deepen that. I've talked with other women who've had similar issues with it.

My husband was getting two or three migraines a week until his doctor prescribed topomax as a preventative; it works splendidly and he only has one or two a month now, and imitrex works on those. Do talk to your doctor about it though, as there are some serious side effects to topomax.
Schools stop being so nitpicky about head lice

Lice are a minor problem, and the commercial shampoos don't work very well. I think it's perfectly reasonable to let kids with only nits in the schoool. One of my kids got them last year, and the treatment that worked for us was cheap and fairly easy, a hair dryer.

People are on average about ten to fifteen pounds heavier than a generation ago. Two things have significantly changed in that time period that would easily explain this minor weight gain: Far fewer people smoke and many more people take antidepressants.
